Classifieds / part time in Kofu
« on: June 04, 2014, 07:22:39 PM »
Just got this e-mail from someone I know who owns an English school

If you know an English speaker who is interested in working for a business class in Kofu (only two students in the class ) once a week, two hours at a time (5:30 to 7:30) , and the pay will be ï¿¥3,000 per hour + transportation, please let me know.

so, lemme know!

There may also be other pointless questions like....

What car did you take your driving test in...
how many times have you renewed your license...
score of your driving test...
What kind of cars you've owned...

so be prepared to be patient, they won't mind if you don't know all of these but they may still ask! GOOD LUCK

My winter tires in my car are too big so when 3 people sit in my car it scrapes on the tire lol because my shocks aren't so great...but I wouldn't mind driving another car. How much more would it cost to rent a car for everyone?

I know the Shodo teacher there as well as a few students(one I used to play ice hockey with!) Never knew the ALT working there though  Good luck with the judge spot I will ask around....any kinda of pay for the gig?

I was going to ask about this because on the letter it says don't drive and not to park anywhere in the area. Thought it was a bit strange. Where is this one west of the South exit?

Yamanashi U is north of the station and there isn't too much parking up the Takeda dori area. There is a pachinko parolor next to the library that might be everyones best bet. There are also a couple of overflow parking areas by Takeda Shrine and perhaps you could just walk down.

Dukie, speaking of speech contests are you doing Greenbank again this year? The same girl I had in the contest last year is trying it again this year and I'm hoping she crushes it, she's been working her ass off. Do you know when it is?

Yes I'll be hosting/mc again this year, it'll be on 11/20.

Everybody,  If any of your students are thinking about it please do it. This contest rocks and is a really good challenge for the students! ^-^

At the most recent speech contest(although not recitation) the judges mentioned they chose the winners based on how natural the speech sounded. They wanted to hear a story rather than a memorized essay. Although everyone's saying the same essay here I'm sure that little bit of info wouldn't hurt! btw anyone going to the contest??? I think I have to be there

In downtown Kofu there is a place called GALA(055-233-1200) and the owner there, Kouki, is fluent and he studied at the Vial Sasson(sp?) school in England. The place is right across the street from Zawatami by the scramble intersection behind the kencho.

hope that helps!

General Stuff / Re: Orchestra? and instrument rental?
« on: July 31, 2013, 12:45:54 PM »
There is a Yamanashi community orchestra...full of people of all ages! Some of my students play in it and they have performances once or twice a year! Yamanashi University also has a giant orchestra ^-^ I teach a string bass player so I will ask him about renting a cello and what not.

There is also a teacher at my school who plays the cello so I could talk to her next time I see her.

Play on playa we will help you get sorted there definitely is a cello layin around somewhere that wants to be played

I think last year a couple of us hiked it all the way to Ashigawa station and were able to squeeze in from there. This and the Isawa fireworks festival are probably the best I have ever seen...anywhere!!

Thanks gman for all that stuff!!!

I think Showa high school also placed somewhere in the top...

Question: My 2 year AU contract will run out in a few months. Does anyone know if AU automatically enters you into a new time-locked contract or if it simply continues your current payment plan on a month by month basis until you cancel? I'm leaving next year and I don't want to be locked into anything.

I chose AU because it's reputed to have the best coverage in the area. I've never had any problems.

carlito you should be good and not have to get into another contract again. that 2 years was probably to pay for the phone...

not 100% sure though!

How long is that switchover deal going? My contract with softbank is up this September, and if they refuse to give a contract based on my visa then I will need other options  :-P

Shoot i don't know how much longer its going to go on for! They're pretty cool about it though and you can even keep your same number...
