HELP WITH BUYING/SELLING/REPAIRING/EXPORTING AUTOMOBILES!!!!!
« on: September 20, 2007, 06:55:47 PM »
I met this guy who lives in the hills on the south side of Kofu.  His name is Kotaro ("Ko").   He lived in Canada for 8 years so he has great english skills.  His main business is exporting autos to Canada, but he will help you purchase a car, sell one, or even export one to Canada or other countries.  He knows all the laws and rules and is great at explaining them.  His friends across the street have a repair garage where they can fix your vehicle or tune it up. I have to highly recommend this guy, he really has helped me with car repairs!

Please contact Kotaro through fred either through pm or o8o518o6736,

I just wanted to put in a plug here.  Kotaro was a lifesaver in the process of getting me my "new" car.  He got me exactly what I wanted for the price I gave him and did all the paperwork and nasty detail stuff.  He's also a super nice guy with near fluent English.  I highly recommend him.  :-D

Errrr, that is aimed at me right? Sorry, been slack.

Kotaro is a great guy and he has now become my "go to" man for car issues. I rang him and we chatted in english and he knows his stuff. The garage that did the work on my car was great and although it took 4 days, they were very good and really cheap. He was also willing to lend me one of his own cars whilst mine was being serviced.

I highly reccomend you give him a call if you need your car looked at and live nearish to fuefuki shi.

Figured this was as good a thread as any to ask this question.

Do they change your oil during shaken?  I can't find anything that tells me at what mileage to have my oil changed.

When I got my oil changed, they put a little sticker on the driver's side door, up near where you pull the lever to open the hood (bonnet) for the engine.

Your oil should ideally be changed every 5000 km. Japanese believe every 3000km which is a little overkill in my opinion.

That depends on the age of the car too though Fred, and the way you drive really.  Just shoot for the middle 4000km.

Of course, if you drive like beyond the car's limits yeah. I would check the colour, condition and the level of the oil and decide if you need to do it before 5000km.

I just want to chime in with my praises for Kotaro!  He found me an amazing, safe, reliable car worth well over what I paid.  He took care of all my papers for me and went way out of his way to make things easier.  He even took my old car off my hands for me and to the junkyard free of charge.  I recommend him to anyone looking for a car or a mechanic. And of course his English and excellent drinking skills are a bonus...

There was a sticker near my steering wheel, but when I got my oil changed they put the new sticker under the hood!  I thought that I was going to have to make my own sticker when I couldn't find it.

Kotaro is nice and very helpful!

Like everyone else on this thread, Kotaro comes with my highest recommendations.  Once I gave him word of what I was looking for he insistently sent me emails with pictures and details of cars he thought were suitable. I may have been a little fussy but he was not deterred, and went above and beyond to get me what I wanted. The whole process was so simple- he even took care of all that nasty paperwork! I have no hesitations in recommending this guy- thanks Kotaro!!

I also highly recommend Kotaro. I told him generally what I was looking for, he showed me some example pictures, and then was able to find a good car in only a couple weeks. Like others have said he's fluent in English which is a huge help as I imagine this process would be quite a headache otherwise. I had no idea what kind of paperwork I had to do pre-purchase and he helped me through that too. Definitely go through him if you can!

Kotaro!!!!!!!!!

My transmission failed in Isawa onsen about half an hours drive from his shop with an entire apartments worth of stuff in the back.

He came out to it straight away checked it over..... told me it was fucked and would cost 10 times what the car was worth to fix.

Then he helped me limp over to his shop, lent me a car so I could drive to shizuoka and back.

at no cost whatsoever!!

He also offered to lend me a car for the next month or so which is an unheard of level of generosity especially for a mechanic but  also for regular humans too.

I'm waiting to see what he turns up at auctions...... i'm pretty hopeful that he'll find a good deal.

Kotaro is my hero. My car's shaken was about to come due, but as a 1991 model it was going to be prohibitively expensive. Plus my muffler had a hole in it that made people think Godzilla was coming down the road. Fred found me a replacement car (the nicest car I've ever owned, actually), but then I found out that my supervisor at the BOE had neglected to transfer the old car's title from my pred, so over a year after getting the thing someone else still owned it. Of course, neither of us knew to pay the consumption tax, so with late fees and whatnot I was looking at 5 man, plus 15-20 man for the old car's shaken. Kotaro smoothed everything over with the auto tax office, got the titles transferred, junked my old car, and even changed the oil on the new one. Not only was his fee very low, but in the long run he saved me over a thousand bucks and I only had to pay a portion of the backed taxes.

If you need something done on/with/about your car situation definitely call this guy.

He was a great help with me and all my car repairs, too--he was very honest with all the transactions in spite of there being some hiccups, easy to communicate with, went way out of his way to bring my car back to me after it was done, let me use his sub car for over 2 weeks, gave me a better deal than I could find anywhere else...he's great! Highly recommended! If I have any other car trouble or eventually decide to get another car, he's the first person I'll go to  :-D

First of all, I want to thank Fred for introducing me to Kotaro!

Kotaro is an awesome dude; he helped me buy a new hood for my car; he located one and bought it off of Yahoo Auctions, and did the installation for a really great price.

He really goes above and beyond to help you out too.  I had a simple suspension problem on my car and he fixed it for me for no extra cost.   :-)

If you need to buy a car, or help with getting parts/repairs/maintenance, he's seriously the best your going to find in Yamanashi.
