Debate- Very low level students.
« on: January 09, 2008, 04:05:02 PM »
I have now reached a section of the textbook I have been dreading- "Let's try a debate!". My JTE is insistent that I plan a lesson for this topic, even for the low-level ichi-nenseis.
Any ideas?
Most of them can't follow basic instructions so the simpler the activity the better.
I'm completely stuck.

Here's what you have to learn to do well Bex:  Anytime someone at work asks you to do something unrealistic or just stupid, pretend you can't understand them.  If their English is bad, they will become self-conscious and stop talking to you.  If their English is fine, pretend that you don't get it.  Every so often, while they explain, say that you understand, and then after, do it completely different.  Example: Debate?  Like comparatives, right?  You may seem stupider, but they don't respect you anyway.
There.  Now everything goes together.
