Shimobe International Day 2011
« on: February 04, 2011, 12:42:55 PM »
Hey, so despite my crying plea thread I just created, we're having an International Day, and you know you want to come!!

This is only going to be with the second years (18 students).  I'm not 100% sure on what's happening (no ones really sat me down and told me, outside of the whole 'we're having one, invite people'), but I think it will be a similar system to last year.  4-5th period, lunch included.  There will be some warm up game, followed by introductions, students talking about traditional Japanesey things, and us joining them in demonstrations. Potentially.

It will be March 14th.  Yeah, lots of warning.  Um, please respond as soon as possible with name, school, country if you want to come.

I don't see any reason why your friend couldn't come along, Tam.  Unless he's some sort of pyschotic killing warthog.  Then I might have to say no.

Ok, so it really is pretty much the same set up as last year. Think they are even using the letter I wrote up last year to send out to you guys.  So it would be starting at around 4th period, meaning they would want you to the school by around 11-11:30.

I think they are wanting to send the letters out to people's schools by Monday, February 14th, so please if you want to come let me know before the 14th.

Most of you guys should have gotten a letter and/or phone call.

Why do you hate dodgeball so much? The kids love it.

Dodgeball should be banned from primary schools the world over. It's nothing but adult-sanctioned physical bullying. Sweet mother of Odin I hate that game.  :x

Sorry, guys. Down to the wire and I'm only just getting some more information about this thing.  It will start around 4th period with some sort of activity together with the students in the gym.  I'm tossing between the ideas of North American style dodgeball, basketball, or potentially broom-style hockey.  Thoughts?

Afterwards, lunch with the students.

For the last activity, it's going to be a cultural exchange thing where the kids are basically practicing their presentations for New Zealand.  So they will introduce different things like calligraphy, origami, and then we'll join the students in trying them out.  I think.  I also don't think you need to bring anything, or do anything to prepare, but I'll double check that as soon as I can.

Sorry for the late post.  The guy in charge speaks no English and likes to deal with that fact by dealing with this stuff last minute. Awesome-sauce!

Broom style hockey is hockey played with cleaning brooms and possibly a baseball or dodgeball.  Sadly, probably no checking.

I think arrival is supposed to be for 11:30?

Dodgeball is always fun, but it it's not everyday that we get to play Broom Hockey. Another plus is that the room we use will be nice and clean afterward!

Anything will be fine though. I think people will have fun regardless.

Hockey is a cherished Canadian past time, is it not? You should share your culture with the students Kelsey!
