Hello! New to Yamanashi. Nice to meet you!
« on: September 10, 2012, 11:55:58 AM »
Hello, Everybody!

I just moved to Japan last week. My wife is a JET in Fujiyoshida, and I'm having a blast just familiarizing myself with the town. This is such a neat little place. I had no idea it would have such a "vintage" feel to it, but I suppose that adds to its charm. Anyways, it's great to be here and I look forward to meeting you all!  :-D

I don't personally drink scotch myself, but my cousin loves the Suntory Hibiki 12 and 17 y.o.
I always have to bring a bottle or two when I can for him.

Nice to meet you guys! And yes- all scotch lovers are A-OK in my book. The best scotch I ever tasted was 18-yo Glenlivet. I'm dying to try the 12 and 17 Suntory Hibiki! Since I'm still new to Fujiyoshida and unemployed, I've been walking around town a lot and meeting some of the locals. So far, My favorite places to go are Coco Curry House and the Omori Bakery. The lady who owns the bakery makes homemade anpan, and on Sunday, the 16th, she's doing fresh manju!

In just a week, I've grown to love this town. If anybody is in Fujiyoshida anytime soon, let me know, and we'll hit up some curry. Next time I go, I've earned the right to try Level 6. Anyone want to try and work up to level 10 with me?

My Sri Lankan friend tried a 10 when he was on holiday here. He said it's the only curry that's ever beaten him  :-P

BTW if you're REALLY into scotch/whiskey there are a couple of distilleries in Yamanashi. One down your way (owned by Kirin?) and the Suntory one in Hakushu. They do tours with taste testing.

LordPox, glad to have you here.  I enjoy whiskys myself, and curry even more so.  I'll be sure to let you know the next time that I'm around Fujiyoshida, although I don't think I'll be trying Level 10s anytime soon.

The highest I ever got was a 5. One of my buds did the 10 there and he said it was like fire on the way in an on the way out. LoL. As for scotch I don't get to drink it a lot. Best stuff I had was like a taste of a Macallan 21. Literally only a taste. But it was amazing.

On another note- has anybody else gone to the game center? It's awesome in there. If anybody else is into Beatmania IIDX, I'll totally play with you. They have a 19th Style machine, which is uber-awesome.
