Sriracha
« on: December 08, 2013, 02:17:52 AM »
Has anyone spotted Sriracha for sale here?

I suspect it MIGHT be at Kaldi, but I forgot to check last time I was there.

Here's what I'm talking about if you aren't familiar with the name

Your suspicions are correct.  I've bought some at Kaldi before.

I've seen this stuff described as liquid heaven. What is so good about it? I guess I've got to try myself some!

Mmmmm. So delicious.  Donki usually carries it as well.

It's been at donki all this time???

I've only experienced the rooster sauce on the far right in the picture, but I assume they are fairly similar. It's excellent in Vietnamese pho as well as spam & scrambled eggs. Gives them a good kick

I put Siracha in anything that could be a little more spicy.  Even curry!  I probably misuse my Siracha privileges sometimes...

My parents are bringing 3 bottles of this stuff with them when they come to visit in a couple weeks.  My wife loves the stuff.  She puts it on everything.  I can't handle it... too spicy

However, they are bringing me ranch dressing, so I'm all set for Xmas

I always get mine at Kaldi ---it's the goose brand and they only have the smaller size but it does come in a couple flavours.  The one with the red cap is the hottest.  I think it's about 300-400yen...

Recently I bought some Tabasco ketchup that I found at a drugstore.  A far cry from Sriracha, but it does have a nice tangy flavour (208yen).

Anyhow, thanks for the tip about Donki.  Is it the same stuff as at Kaldi?

Can anyone backup the claim that this is actually available at Donki?
I have yet to be able to locate it there...

The one in the Yosh has it in the section with the salsa/tacos/other hot sauces.  It's the goose brand.

Thanks, that explains why I haven't been able to spot it in Isawa.

I also heard a rumour that the now deserted Ogino Joy complex near Alps Dori and Rte 20 is moving towards becoming another Donki ---we'll have to wait and see if that actually happens, and whether or not they decide to carry sriracha...

Have you ever tried putting it IN your ranch dressing? It's amazing, and you can control the level heat. It's also good mixed with ketchup.

The only kind I've been able to find here (the goose) has a little different flavor to it. It's not bad, but it's definitely different.

I have not yet tried that. The ranch usually gets mixed with BBQ sauce actually. That's our dipping sauce of choice for fries at our place.
