Hello everyone!

We're making an event in Kofu during 2 days to celebrate the 80 years of Japan-Canada relations.

The first event consist of experiencing Ice Hockey from 6h30pm to 9pm on friday, october 23rd at the Ice Arena of the Kose Sports Koen.
We will be doing Ice Skating and Ice Hockey. Everybody is welcome, you just have to pay shoes and insurance fee for 500 yens.
To get there, you have to take the Yamanashi Koutsuu Bus from Kofu station bus terminal. Otherwise its 20 minutes by car. It's 10 minutes by car from Minami Kofu Station.
The official site access map: http://www.kose-sp.pref.yamanashi.jp/kose_wdm/html/kssp/41741723621.html

Also, we will have a Canada Day from 10 am to 4 pm on saturday, october 24th at Kofu's Yamanashi International Center.
Everyone who wants to help, or just come for fun, is welcomed!
-From 10h30am to 12am, there will be a speech by the first secretary of Canadian ambassy, and we're planning to show videos about canada. There will also be pancakes. For the children we're planning to do a children's book reading session.
-From  12am to 2pm, we will enjoy a canadian style Thanksgiving meal, with Turkey and stuff.
-From 2pm to 4pm, there will be a canadian culture class by Mandy, and many activities such as a dream catcher making workshop to discover canadian culture.

Also, I am looking for people to help:
One or two people willing to do the book reading session.
One or two people to help cooking food with Jenka.
One or two people to help at the dream catcher making workshop.

If you are interested, you can just answer there or write me an email. My adress: v.balsan@yia.or.jp

Another cool idea would be to set up a display to screen some shorts from the National Film Board of Canada.
Especially award winning Canadian animation, but also Canadian Vignettes and the Heritage Minute spots.

'The Hockey Sweater' is a classic but it might be a little tough depending on the age group. I've got a copy if we need one.

Yeah, Nick, that was totally what I was thinking.
I'm sure there are plenty of other classics available for download too.

My favorite animated Canadian film is the musical short the "Log Rider's Waltz" made in the 1970's. You can view it, along with other Canadian short films online:

The film by Ryan Larkin from the 1960's called "Walking" is also ground breaking in its animation style

It is a little high level, but it is a great story! There is also an animated short version of the story, which may be easier to understand:

Thanks for all the inputs!
We are still looking for more volunteers! Don't worry if you are not good at cooking, because the cooking team is actually more like cafe/restaurant team, so not everyone need to be the chef;)

hang: Yay! we have our first ice-hockey participant! you should take your students there too!

Taurean: you also need to serve food as well XD

Nick: the book reading session is actually quite long, about 1.5 hours in the morning, so we can either divide it into two sessions if we have a lot of kids coming, or incorporate more activities in the session. Once we have the volunteer list composed, we can elaborate on it together.

rachcj: Thanks for signing up! May I have your name and contact info? we:ll probably have a brief meeting for all volunteers when the time comes.

Lozz: Thank you so much!!! are you in hokuto city by any chance?  we can send you the event poster if it is helpful!

Grace: aww I wish you could be here with us!!!the only thing about the video clip is that there might not be internet accessin the centre, but thanks a lot! the links are very helpful.

Daniel: It is not written on the first post, but could you actually help out with the Canadian cultue lesson?
We need as much as resources at the point so yes, we need your DVD, picture books, and anything you think it is useful to promote Canada.

I had signed up to be a reader, but haven't heard anything back...am I still needed?
I have pulled Anne of Green Gables and was going to dumb it down to one episode or
I was going to read "If you give a Mouse a cookie"  which, although not from a Canadian Writer, is popular in Canada.... :|
and has some nice easy words for the students
what do you think?

It also depends on how old the kids are, and how many?  Details please ?
Thanks!

Victor Balsan, at the International Center, called me about details for the pancake making I'll be doing Saturday morning.  You should try calling him to see if he has any details for you.  I think this is his work phone number...

I'll be going to Kose Friday night for ice skating, but I'm a less than decent ice-skater and will be clinging to the walls as much as possible. Anyways, looking forward to this!!!

I have my school marathon that day so if I show I'll be really late and just wondering what I'll have missed...

Hey - if anyone has any photos from the event - would they mind sending me a few. I know some people at the Canadian Embassy in Ottawa that would be interested in seeing them, and making a posting on the website. Thanks
No, I'm serious - I can have no interference.
