3rd Ski trip 2010 ? March 19th - 22nd
« on: February 10, 2010, 09:34:59 AM »
With the great dumpings of snow we have had in Hakuba this year, conditions are the best I have known in my time in Japan. So, I was thinking of doing a 3 day trip to Hakuba for March 19th to 22nd. I would just like to gauge the interest of people out there.

Talking to Kato san, prices would be 20,000 yen for 3 night stay/3 day pass/ 5 meals. rentals ski etc would be 3,800 for the full 3 days.
If you want to board at other hakuba resorts, you would need to sort that out yourself.

So give me an idea of if you would like to join me and I will start putting the wheels in motion.

What: Skiing and snowboarding in Nagano
When: March 19th -22nd 2010 ( 3 nights)
Where: Lady Diana hotel / Hakuba Goryu Resort http://ladydiana.jp/e/index.html

How much:  20,000yen ( 3 day pass), 18,500 (2 day pass) 17,000 ( 1 day pass)

The March Ski trip will be generally of the same format as the January trip. So for those who did not go on it, click the link for the full explanation of the ski trip.
http://www.yetijapan.com/forum/index.php?topic=6781.0

This is a 3 night stay for the long weekend and includes 5 meals and a 1/2/3 day pass as you feel fit.

I am using the same rental company as before, so the prices are.
                    Ski/Board + Boots - 1800/2800yen for one/two/three days
                    Ski/Board trousers and jacket - 1800/2800/3800yen for one/two/three days
                    Goggles  - 500/1000/1500 yen for one/two/three days
                    Gloves  - 500/1000/1500 yen for one/two/three days

For transport, I think this will be a smaller trip and hopefully we do not need to book vans and we can squeeze everyone into cars. If we do rent a van from Toyota, I think it will be 8,500 yen as we will have the van for 3 days and hence extra costs. If we don't have enough cars, then perhaps trains would be an option as opposed to renting a van.

For lessons, I will not be able to book our own ski instructor, but I can make a booking through Evergreen. Their lessons were 6,000 yen last time.

That is about it really. All I need from you is an RSVP in this format

1. Name :
2. Gear Rental : Yes / no ?
if yes please say what : (skis or board / boots / clothing )
    Shoe size :  **cm
Height: **cm (if you require board / skis )
Clothes sizes – if you know them in Japanese sizes.
    Gloves/Goggles ?
  3. Transport: need a lift/ not required / got a lift / going in the vans (if they are available)/ public transport.
If you are taking a van, Kofu or Fujiyoshida/Otuski departure ?
4. Other Information: (vegetarian meals required etc)
5. Lessons? Boarding or Skiing? What level are you?

RSVP

1. Fred
2. Jimmy
3. Brian (arriving Saturday)
4. Mike Wilcox
5. Taylor Veltrop
6. Bebhinn
7. Padraig
8. Katrina Brown

Glorious! I can't say for sure if I can be in for it, but wouldn't it still be a better idea to get the date moved up to early March? If it's not really doable, then no big deal. I just want to make sure it's cold enough.

Well, the weekend of the 5th, weekend of the 12th is pub quiz,  and I wanted to try a 3 day weekend. With the snow depth 1.2 metres better than last year, thershould be plenty of snow left. Also, it is after pay day for a lot of people.

With these kind of snowfalls on the 4th of March last year too, we should be pretty safe. It'll also be nice to do a 3 day weekend

Might be interested depending on how much it is, and how much money I still have after Golden week, etc., plans.

Sweet. Golden week is in May though  :-D

Is anyone else got Hakuba fatigue? I am hesitant  to go there just because I've been so many other times...
A Life? Cool! Where can I download one of those?

You are free to get a pass for other resorts, you will just have to arrange your own transport and source your own lift pass. Kelly Boyland, Mike Wilcox and Jack Rogers have all done this before. There are 10 ski resorts and over 200 different runs in the area.

Sorry, Fred.  As much as I'd love to go, I've been informed that there's an important ceremony and enkai I need to go to on that saturday.  It sucks all kinds of things (I want my long weekend, dammit!), but I don't think it'll be looked on kindly if I miss it.  Sorry.

I am sure Carol, Emily, Jackie, Kelly and Bebhinn can perhaps fill that  :-D

I will get the details for this trip up sometime this week for everyone else. I need to call Kato san and work out the permutations.
The 3 day/3pass package is 22,500. Any other permutations will be cheaper. I just need to know how much cheaper, hence I have to make the phone call.

I dont think I'll be making this trip  :-(
as much as I want to, I've got to save more monies and find my own place here after JET, so I'm going to sit this one out (Though it pains me to do so). . . .

So the details are in. The 3 day package with hotel, passes and meals is 20,000 yen. There is a one/two day pass option too at 17,000 and 18,500 yen.

The conditions have been brought up a few times and I really don't know what it will be like. There will be snow all over the mountains as the base is much deeper than other years and over 1m more than last year. There is more snow forecast for the nest week too. However, I forgot to buy my crystal ball and cannot project what the conditions will be like although boarding and skiing will be possible. Maybe we will luck out and get those perfect conditions like we did in January *prays to the gods*

I am thinking that we could take some games, movies and stuff with us too and make a long weekend of just socialising too.

So, RSVP as indicated in the first post and I will organise everything for you all.

Is there a definite deadline to give you an answer to whether we're going or not?  I don't want to decide until I feel more comfortable about what the weather's gonna be like.  As that weekend approaches there will be more acurate forcasts, which is what I'm waiting for.
