Hello everybody,

I've been thinking about what we could do to contribute to the Great East Japan Earthquake (as it has been officialised).
There is a great site that is suggesting everyone in the country (and even outside Japan) to do a 5 kms Charity Run/Walk, alone or with a group of friends, on the 10th of April (Sun), at 3:11 pm.

The name of the site is 5toSurvive:
http://5tosurvive.org/

So for those interested, I suggest that you go through this site to see what it is all about.
What's more, I was thinking that we could organise several groups throughout the prefecture to participate to this event while doing some fundraising at the same time.

Please feel free to post any ideas and suggestions, and use this thread to organise running/walking groups in the several cities of the prefecture for those interested!

Hanami and running in Ooboshi Park
« Reply #1 on: April 06, 2011, 04:15:53 PM »
Hey!

A few of us are running in Ooboshi Park in Fujikawa Town on Sunday. Ooboshi Park is one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Yamanashi, with over 2000 cherry trees blooming all over the mountain. They are holding a Sakura Festival in the park til the 10th.

The plan is to go in the morning, and do hamami (lunch/picnic). In the afternoon around 3, we will start running/trekking down and run a bit around the old town of Kajikazawa and then finally head to Kajikazawa Station.

If you are not interested in running, just come out for hanami and support anyway!!

Let me know if you're interested!

Thank you very much to all the generous donators who participated to the fundraising on Sunday, for the Charity Walk in Kofu.
I would also like to thank all those who took their precious time during the Hanami and joined the walk, asking for the generosity of everyone around Kofu streets and in Maizuru Castle Park.
Thanks to everyone's participation, we were able to raise 42,352 yens at the Kofu run/walk!
all the benefits will go to the Japanese Red Cross and the association Smile Kids Japan (http://www.smilekidsjapan.org/)

Hey! Just to follow up with our fundraising status.

Our team in Ooboshi Park raised ¥54535! We are accepting cash donations until the end of this week before we send them off to Red Cross and Smiles & Dreams: Tohoku Kids’ Project.

Even our fundraising activity is ending soon, the recovery and reconstruction of Tohoku will be a much longer process.
If you have a chance to contribute in the future, please take the chance and do it!

Mandy
