there's a link for the season, updates to be posted on the 14th (it currently has the 2011 info.)

Your Fireworks festival season runs through the summer, primarily in July and August.  Buy a blue plastic sheet for the ground and take the opportunity to wear a yukata and drink heavily in public while eating over-priced food.

Or conversly, buy cheap power rangers or kitty-chan themed goods.  There's also bound to be a lot of stalls selling EXILE, l'arc en Ciel or AKB48 clear files and book covers.  Whatever floats your boat!

All proceeds benefit the yakuza.

It's in Japanese, but it should be clear after some face scrunching:
開催日時             DATE/TIME
     2011å¹´7月23æ—¥(土)
        19:30~21:00
悪天の場合            RAIN DATE
      小雨決行(荒天の場合は7月24æ—¥(æ—¥)に延期)
開催場所              PLACE
     Ã§Â¬â€ºÃ¥ÂÂ¹Ã¥Â·ÂÃ¤Â¸â€¡Ã¥Å â€ºÃ¥Â¤Â§Ã¦Â©â€¹Ã¤Â¸â€¹Ã¦ÂµÂ

I'm sure jesse will tell me if I've read this wrong.

hahah I'm just yanking your chain.  Ideally I'd like a seven game series with game 7 being decided by either Durant or LeBron.

P.S:  That was a foul... :p

Damn, I'm going to miss Ichikawa this year (and most of the other ones)....oh well, at least I'll be around for Manriki Koen. Hopefully some people will want to meet up for that one.

This isn't Tanabata, that is later in the year.
I think the key to working out which one to go to depends on your location.
However, the last figure in each line is tells you "How many bleeding fire-bombs" as Kelly puts it, so that is a good indication of how big the festival is.

Most people like to go to Yamanashi Shi and Isawa (not on the list) as they are on the Chuo Line.
Ichikawa is popular too as it is the biggest.

The ones by the fuji five lakes are popular with people with easy access to them.

Tanabata is July 7th. This Saturday.

Also...pretty sure Isawa is on the list?  :?

Tanabata is July 7th. This Saturday.

I'm assuming the stuff in Kofu is still happening in the evening even though it's a Saturday this year. Anyone in Kofu want to confirm/deny/add more information?

For those of you who haven't been, it's a good chance to wear a yukata if you want.

I had a look at those the other day, and I'm wondering if they're actually correct because the dates are exactly the same as last year, and Ichikawadaimon is on a Tuesday. =/

I believe Ichikawadaimon is always on the same date (regardless of the day), but if I'm wrong someone please correct me.

From what I understand, Ichikawadaimon is always 8/7. Cuz it's Ha(chi)- Na(na)- (You)Bi. So yeah, Beth (and the info sheet) would be correct.

I thought I posted it yesterday but yes the Ichikawa fireworks is always on the same date - 8/7.

For the newbies this is the one not to miss, it's by far the biggest and best in Yamanashi.

I don't think there is. You're best off meeting up with the rest of the YETI people at Kofu Sta. and taking the train. Plus, Fred always seems to get a good spot on the riverside for all the YETI people.

I have heard that staying away from the river/parking somewhat in the mountains is better...and then you could always pull the "dad" manoever and leave during the finale.

I might do that if the weather is good and the display is visible from a farther vantage point. I also have not heard of any YETI gathering for it and would prefer driving anyway.

In theory it's possible to drive to the event but I would only suggest it as a very very very last option. Even after you run around looking for somewhere to park for a long time you'll still have to deal with some of the longest/least fun traffic of your life. Under no circumstance should you drive if your car doesn't have AC lol.

People can disagree with me but I think that this is the busiest event of the whole year in Yamanashi.

You probably want to check with him to make sure he'll be doing it. I know he's going to the US this summer, but I don't know his travel dates.
