general games/ activities to correct frequent mistakes.

Here are some activities that are useful to help students fix common mistakes in sentence construction. None of there are entirely original ideas and you may have aleady done some or all of them.

Sentence scramble- Students need to construct sentences word for word

Write out the English sentences you want to use and make multiple copies (one for each lunch group.)

Cut out each individual word and punctuation, put them in an envelope (one for each group.)

In class:

Version 1: listening (most basic)
Say the sentences in English and have the students put the words in order. This sounds basic but it forces the students to use all the little words like "a," "the," etc. The first group to correctly construct the sentence and raise their hands gets a point. You can make this more challenging by reading it faster and or  only once or twice.

Version 2: translation
Read the sentences in Japanese. The students must translate them correctly. Scorring is the same as the previous version. This version is nice because not only does it get the students to pick the correct words, but also odrering, and particle/article useage.
Go Dumples!
