YETI NEWS
************************************************************

“I’m siiiiiinging in the rain, just siiiiiinging in the rain.”
Batten down the hatches me hearties, a storm be a blowin’ through. Um what can I tell you? This week has been pretty uneventful apart from the extreme weather so I won’t take up your time any longer…please proceed to the useful bit. But first, a word from your President:

YETI Elections: 1st year JET wanted!!!

Hello all you beautiful people.

Now is the time for the 2007 election for 1st year YETI representative.
So, you might ask - what kind of person would actually volunteer for this position?

Basically, this is an opportunity to get involved with YETI in a way never before dreamed!!!! We want someone who can represent the wishes and needs (hopes and dreams?) of first year ALTs as well as get involved with event planning and all those great things that go along with being a member of YETI - no we can't disclose those advantages publicly, sorry.

As elections for this position are in September, you will remain in this position until next September (or when you go home - whichever is earlier) Because of this, you will have the opportunity to work with us, as well as the next group of YETI people.

This is a non paying position as are ours. It's a thankless job but it's also lots of fun and gives you the opportunity to get involved and decide what to do with 50 or more people from time to time. You don't have to get involved with every event.
If you are interested please send a short blurb (a paragraph or so) to Natalie at spaghetti.yamamama@gmail.com  and she will put it in the Spaghetti. Deadlines for submissions are Wednesday September 19th at 4:00pm. Voting will go on for one week after that and the winner will be announced the following week.

Fuji Climb 2007 – To climb or not to climb that is the question.

*Update*: Considering the typhoon, we will assess the situation and decide for definite on Saturday morning if we really should attempt it in these conditions. Please check the forum for confirmation. If you haven’t got the internet at home please call one of us to confirm, you should have all received the contact list this week from Lee. Don’t worry if we don’t end up doing it, we have plenty more things up our sleeves and you can always climb it next July/August. Look out for forthcoming Pub Quiz and Halloween shenanigans.

This year we will attempt the summit on Saturday September 8th. There will be two teams of explorers. One team will be led by the genki and heroic Mike Wilcox. The other will be led by the fairly lazy Dr Gibbons. I think you can guess who is starting from the bottom and who is starting at the 5th station, 2200 meters above sea level.

The lazy people will begin the hike from the 5th station at 7:00 pm. Mike will lead the bravest souls from the bottom, starting at (TBA) o'clock.

Please RSVP on the forum if you want to come, can provide rides, accommodation, food or performance enhancing drugs.

Also, please feel free to help me develop a to bring list:
- extra socks
- a hat
- gloves
- warm jacket for the top
- flashlight
- sunglasses
- sunscreen
- water (2L)
- money
- good shoes or boots for hiking
- a sense of humor
- high protein food
- a camera
- an mp3 player
- a phone and charger
