Posting stuff
« on: May 21, 2012, 02:58:07 PM »
This has been over a bazillion times before but still...
I need to post a birthday present home. It is quite small and light, not the big box of stuff that was my christmas parcel, as such I really don't want to pay the huge price I paid at christmas.
Anyone got any clues about how I should best go about doing this?

The cheapest way to ship something less that 2kg in weight and no larger than 90cm in l x w x h is via small packet. You can select either Surface, SAL, or airmail.  Surface is the cheapest but can take 2 months or more for delivery. SAL takes about 3-4 weeks for delivery.  Airmail takes about 1-2. You can get a tracking number for an additional 410yen if shipping via SAL or airmail, but not if shipping via surface mail.

Just be sure to tell the post office people you want small packet because I think they tend to selcet parcel post by default, which is more expensive.  You can check all your shipping options, assuming you know the weight and size of your package, using the Japan post website http://www.post.japanpost.jp/cgi-charge/index.php?lang=_en
