Fruit Introductions: A short 5 minute activity
« on: February 17, 2006, 03:03:53 PM »
So the students always can use a little practice with the "Hello, my name is.... blah blah blah", but they already know each other.  I did this activity as a short 5 minute activity and it got all the kids laughing and practicing phrases that they remember being taught, but rarely use.  I got this from 5 minute English.  Anyways, this  is how it goes:

Give the students a piece of paper and tell them to number 1-6.  Then tell them to write down their answers to what you say.

1. Name a fruit
2. Name a vegetable
3. Choose a number between 1-200
4. Answer the question "Do you like natto?"  (it really can be anything, but natto splits stuff pretty evenly)
5. How many pens and pencils do you have right now?
6. What is the first thing you do every morning?

Then tell them that their answers are really the answers to these questions.

1.  What is your first name?
2.  What is your family name?
3.  How old are you?
4.  Are you married?
5.  How many children do you have?
6.  What is your job?

Next, tell them to introduce themselves to two more people.  The giggles usually start around number 3 or 4.

I did this lesson.  It was great fun, but in JHS took longer than 5 minutes.  definitely recommended!
